Launch of book “Food for your eyes”

The book “Food For Your Eyes” has been officially launched yesterday. After almost a year, the book has finally come to print. Chui Hoong and I are very happy that our 4th “baby” has arrived. Coincidentally, the book launch date of 5 September is also the birthday of our eldest daughter. The book covers common eye conditions, various supplements for the eye and has more than 55 recipes that contain eye healthy ingredients like lutein, omega 3 oil, and antioxidants.

Thank you to our supporters

We would like to record our thanks to Star Publications for making our dream a reality. In particular, the Food Editor Julie Wong and her team, who did a fantastic job with the food styling and photography. We are also grateful to corporate sponsors that have placed early orders for the book: Sunway Medical Centre, Focus Point optical group, Novartis and Bausch + Lomb.

The royalties of the book will be donated to the National Council for the Blind Malaysia to support their charity work to assist visually impaired people.

The book is on sale in major bookstores in Malaysia and Singapore and also online: bookstore.thestar.com.my

I hope that you will enjoy reading it and that it will raise awareness of AMD.

If you are considering surgery, please let the doctor know if you are taking the following medications: Flomax (Tamsulosin), Doxazosin, Asprin, or any blood thinning drugs like Warfarin, Plavix or Ticlid (Dipyradimole). These medications may need to be stopped before surgery.

You can listen to Dr Fong talking about cataract surgery.

Phacoemulsification surgery

The purpose of the operation is to replace the cataract with a plastic lens (implant) inside your eye. This usually done under local anesthesia. With a local anaesthetic you will be awake during the operation. You will not be able to see what is happening, but you will be aware of a bright light...
